Der Club U im und unter dem Otto Wagner Pavillon ist quasi ein Wiener Original. Gleichzeitig ein zentraler wie Underground Ort für Kultur. Ein Space wo die Grenze zwischen einer sog. „Hochkultur“ und alternativen Kulturformen verschwimmt und alles Platz hat. Ein offener Ort, in einer Stadt, die solche Spaces braucht.

„to speak and thrive and to live“ ist eine multimediale Installation im Club U mit Wiener und Wien-based Künstler*innen und Musiker*innen, die sich weitgefächerten gesellschaftlicher und künstlerischer Ausdrucksformen bedienen.

Der Titel des Projekts bezieht sich auf und ist eine Hommage an die kürzlich verstorbene Autorin und Aktivistin bell hooks, die das Konzept „queer“ nicht als Adjektiv, sondern als Verb verstand. Der Aufruf, queer zu handeln, zog sich durch bell hooks’ Schaffen:

“[but] queer as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.“ bell hooks
